Optimizing for applicant tracking systems (ATS) and optimizing for humans are related—but not identical.

Keywords: mirror the JD, don’t stuff

Pull 8–12 terms from the posting (tools, domains, level). Work them into bullets where they’re true. A separate “skills” keyword dump at the bottom often hurts readability.

Recruiters scan the top third

Lead with role-relevant headline + 2–3 bullets with numbers. Generic summaries (“hard-working team player”) burn that space.

Fit shows in outcomes

“Responsible for” is weak. “Cut onboarding time 30% by…” is strong. Tie each bullet to a problem you solved or a scope you owned.

Use AI to gap-check, not to inflate

Ask: “Which JD requirements are missing from my resume?” Then add honest evidence—or plan to address gaps in a cover note or interview.
